Grants 2022–2023

In fiscal year 2022-2023, MZHF awarded new grants from board-designated funds totaling approximately $2,445,000. Of this total, $780,000 was allocated from unrestricted funds, $730,000 was allocated from patient care and education funds, and $935,000 was allocated from research funds. Additionally, MZHF’s Fishbon Fund Committee awarded $1,000,000 to establish the Fishbon Endowed Chair in Family Planning and Abortion at UCSF Mount Zion. Institute on Aging

Companioa Enrichment Center Program – to support transportation and scholarships to increase the number of underserved dementia clients and families receiving services through Companioa’s dementia-friendly day programming at its Presidio Center

Jewish Home & Senior Living Foundation – SF Campus for Jewish Living

Jewish Home and Rehab Center Short-Stay Rehabilitation Program – to provide quality short-term care to older adult patients, enabling them to return to their highest-possible level of functioning and assisting them to successfully return to their home and community

Shalom Bayit

San Francisco Healthy Jewish Families Project – to support provider training, teen and adult abuse prevention/education, early intervention, and direct care to victims, to reduce and prevent violence in Jewish homes, improve community response, increase provider competence, and ensure that those affected are met with adequate intervention wherever they seek help

Jewish Vocational Service

JVS Healthcare Training Programs – to support three programs which prepare clients for living-wage, career-track UCSF jobs, increasing both the capacity and cultural competency of UCSF’s frontline, patient-facing workforce

Northern California Board of Rabbis

Chaplaincy Program Development – to employ a part-time rabbi to provide spiritual care through hospital visits for Jews who are sick and/or dying, and unaffiliated with a synagogue

Jewish Community Federation

Mental Health and Wellness Initiative – to significantly expand access to mental health services through one or more of three focal areas: Low Income Access Funds for individual therapy; Young Adult Peer Connectors; Young Family Peer Connectors


Jewish Infertility Supportto provide emotional, spiritual, and financial support for people in the Jewish community experiencing infertility and other family building challenges
