Grants 2018–2019

In fiscal year 2018-2019, MZHF awarded new grants totaling approximately $1,923,000. Of this total, $733,000 was allocated from patient care and education funds, $660,000 was allocated from unrestricted funds, and $530,000 was allocated from research funds. The following grants listing summary includes a selection of awards approved by Mount Zion Health Fund’s Board of Directors during fiscal year 2018-19.

Jewish Legacy Awards

Jewish Home & Senior Living Foundation

Jewish Home Financial Accessibility Fund – a multi-year award to provide health-related services for low-income, frail elderly residents of the Home’s rental-based assisted living and memory care residential facilities 
$200,000 (payment on multi-year award)

Institute on Aging

Caring for Our Caregivers – to pilot and evaluate practices for strengthening staff members’ ability to manage stress and keep balance in body, mind and spirit while providing care for San Francisco’s primarily low-income, high-need older adults and adults with disabilities

Bay Area Jewish Healing Center

Healing Without Borders: Ruach Omanut (Spirit of the Arts) – through a number of strategic partnerships with arts organizations, creation of more accessible portals to both the spiritual healing that art offers and to lift up the artistic expression of marginalized sick, grieving and disabled voices

Jewish Vocational Service

Healthcare Sector Strategy – to provide training to help underserved, low-income job seekers in San Francisco build skills and secure health care career path jobs toward economic self-sufficiency

Shalom Bayit

San Francisco Healthy Jewish Families Project – to reduce and prevent domestic violence in Jewish homes, improve community response, increase provider competence, and ensure appropriate intervention for those affected


Jewish Infertility Support – to provide emotional, spiritual, financial and informational support for people in the Jewish community experiencing infertility and other fertility challenges
