Poetic Medicine for Grief: Creating Safe Space for Diverse Stories of Loss — Building Racially-Tailored Bereavement Programs in two Mount Zion/SF BIPOC Communities: MERI Center partnered with CACCC and SFAAFBC to train four Chinese American volunteers who led Mandarin grief workshops. The program evaluated facilitator training and workshop effectiveness through pre/post assessments, comparing racially concordant workshops to English sessions. $130,000

Trauma-Informed Care Training for Pediatric Residents with Glide Center for Social Justice: Create more understanding and trust in the medical system and inspire interest in healthcare professions. $7,478

Allies for Health: Partnership between UCSF and Hilltop High School: Help parent-students finish high school while building parenting skills and gives pediatric residents the chance to teach and connect with the community they serve. $2,000

Cancer Supportive Programming FY24-25: Stress reduction courses, educational materials, videos, and transportation support for underserved patients. $30,000

MZ CANCER CENTER

Art for Recovery FY24-25: Successfully served 200 patients monthly through six therapeutic programs; earned San Francisco MoMA exhibition for Fall 2026. Delivered Open Art Studio, writing workshops, music series, YouTube storytelling, Firefly project, and Artist-in-Residence services. Launched Mandarin-speaking art group to address language and cultural barriers for Chinese immigrant patients. $40,000

Community Care Fund FY24-25: This extended funding cycle has allowed us to expand access to integrative care for economically disadvantaged individuals across a broad spectrum of identities—including race, ethnicity, national origin, gender identity, health status, education, language, birthplace, age, and sexual orientation. $40,000

WOMEN’S HEALTH RESOURCE CENTER

Perinatal Care Fund FY24-25: Expand access to prenatal and postpartum education, support services, and hospital breast pump rentals in vulnerable, low-income communities. $7,500

ANESTHESIA DEPARTMENT

Bridge Year Block Grant: Grant funds improved wellness for Mount Zion Anesthesia faculty and strengthened perioperative workforce relationships. Success was measured through improved on-time case starts and increased faculty satisfaction with upgraded call rooms. $20,000

MZ CANCER CENTER (INCLUDES BREAST CANCER ONCOLOGY, HEM ONC, CGPP)

Bridge Year Block Grant: Digital outreach strategy to offer genetic testing to relatives of UCSF patients with inherited cancer risk (PI: Dr. Bethan Powell, OB/GYN). $50,000

DERMATOLOGY

Bridge Year Block Grant: Track health equity progress related to clinical care. Award micro-grants for faculty pilot projects. $50,000

GASTROENTEROLOGY

Bridge Year Block Grant: Funds supported community-building events for UCSF GI Division including a 40+ attendee summer picnic, faculty luncheons, and monthly IBD meetings (25 attendees). Impact included stronger cross-site connections, improved team morale, better case alignment, and establishment of a new division wellness committee. $12,000

Bridge Year Block Grant: Provide activities to build and support a stronger sense of community, diversity and inclusion, and wellbeing in DGIM. $50,000
